What is Facial Recognition?
Facial recognition is a biometric technology used to identify faces. By identifying an individual’s face, it confirms their identity. This means that an individual cannot have multiple driver’s licenses or state IDs.
How does this system work?
The system would store the driver’s profile in the cloud. For subsequent trips, an exterior camera positioned over the other pillar would identify the driver walking to the vehicle and adjust the seat, radio and preferred climate control before the driver is seated.
Installation process
An automaker could also install other cameras in the cabin to recognize and store profiles of passengers. A noise cancellation system could create an aural cocoon around each passenger, who could listen to his or her preferred music.
The accuracy of the system
The facial-recognition software is robust enough to recognize motorists even if they change their look by growing a beard, getting a new haircut or wearing glasses.
An Overview of the Facial Recognition system
The technology, which has been experimented with since the 1960s, works like this. When you visit your local DMV to renew your license, for example, your face is captured by a digital video camera. The physical and behavioral samples captured are then extracted in order to create and compare templates. In just a matter of seconds the technology determines if this is a new sample or matches an existing sample from a facial database.
Various distinguishable landmarks of facial features are measured by facial recognition tech (FRT) from approximately 80 nodal points, creating a faceprint – a numerical code. Some of these features include length of the jawline, cheekbones shape, distance between the eyes and the depth of the eye sockets, and the nose width. The measurements gathered by the system are then put in a database and compared to other detected faces when a certain person stands before the camera.
In short, the use of facial recognition software allows your CCTV security algorithms to trigger an alert when it identifies particular individuals from a hit list. It is an irreplaceable technology equally for finding shoplifters, scam artists, or potential terrorists.
Automobile facial recognition software uses infrared sensors
The software uses infrared sensors to monitor the driver and spot or anticipate distraction. For instance, if that driver looks away from the road for more than three seconds, the system will beep. Beeping several times without getting a driver response will result in the vehicle automatically slowing to a stop. The system does not enable entry into the vehicle, but only monitors for distracted driving.
The importance of Facial Recognition System
Face recognition is one of the key components for future intelligent vehicle applications such as determining whether a person is authorized to operate the vehicle. This study describes the development and implementation of an automatic face recognition system in the car environment. The challenge is to build a fast and accurate system that is able to detect, recognize and verify a driver`s identity with the constraint introduced in the car environment in daylight lighting conditions. A further constraint is to use a low-cost web camera to capture the frontal images. The system consists of two parts. The first is face detection, which is based on combining fast and classical Neural Networks (NN) methods. The second is face recognition and verification, which is based on combining Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) techniques. Lighting correction techniques are applied to improve the overall performance.
Our Verdict for the Facial recognition system
However, a core conclusion of this technology is that deployments of face recognition are diverse and differentiable, but that should not deter users from adopting the challenge. And while the debate still rages, what is important to recall is that the physiological characteristics of the human face with relevance to various expressions such as happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise and disgust are associated with geometrical structures which restored as base matching template for the recognition system call for an early adoption of technologies that invariably makes the difference between your business thriving or dying. The core technologies have evolved and the cost of equipment is going down dramatically due to the integration and the increasing processing power. Certain applications of face recognition technology are now cost-effective, reliable and highly accurate, and there are no technological or financial barriers for stepping from the pilot project to widespread deployment.
So, the best-case scenario would be to take advantage of this software system as it may closely benefit your business in more ways than you can imagine.
